Why do I get a copy of my text message when I send one out?

When I send a text message to my husband, I immediately get a copy of my message back . How do I disable that?

If you're sending the text message to a shared Apple ID or to a phone number that's different from your own? If the former then you would indeed get a copy of the sent message.
