Why can't my friend reply to me using iMessage?

why my friend cant reply me using imessage?

though i and my friend both using iphone. when i send text to him, it shows imessage but he replies it comes as a normal sms. in setting it shows imessage option is on. so how he can also send imessage to me.

Maybe because his connection (3G/wifi) is not good. Let's check the connection, my friend.

Your friend may have his/her iMessage turned off in settings. Or their phone may be turned off. (powered off).
