why can't I turn on my iPhone 5s?

Earlier today, my phone was functioning normally; I was receiving texts, emails, phone calls, etc.
Then, all of a sudden, without a low-battery warning (or any other kind), my phone went completely dead.
I tried holding down the power button.. nothing. Help!

hold home and power and see if it reboots
