Why can't I text to a phone number with my same area code?

When I text to my son's phone I get an error message saying I must use valid 10 digit number.

If you're in Canada/USA, make sure you're not putting the "1" in front of the number. You only use the "1" to dial an actual call. For sending a text, just enter the actual 10-digit number.

Also make sure you're actually entering the area code. You need the full 10-digits of the number to send an SMS.
