Why cant i redeem my apple gift card?

I was wondering why i cant redeem my apple gift card on the iPod app store. I tried multiple times and it says it cant find the pin.

Apple Gift Cards can only be redeemed/used at a Apple Store or online in the Apple Store.

You need an iTunes Gift Card to use purchase items in the iTunes Store for things such as music or apps.

What exactly are you trying to purchase?
