I used Camera Awesome to take the images. They are all nicely rendered in camera roll. Before updating to IOS 8.1, photo stream would put them on my ipad, but sadly, no longer.

Are both devices on iOS8.x? If not upgrade them both and the Photo Sync should be ok. I had this issue with one lonely iPad Mini that was not updated. As soon as I put it on 8.x everything started syncing.
