Why can't I get past the slide to unlock ?

why cant I get past the "slide to unlock" ? it goe dark after a couple of seconds

I have tried to unlock my IPAD without success

It's usually a Five second wake up when you press the Home Button which is plenty of time to swipe right.

Try placing you iPad on a flat surface so you can access the screen quickly enough as not to drop your device
