Why can I no longer copy message from Note to Contacts?

I can no longer copy addresses from Notes to Contacts

For years I have maintained many address lists in Notes. I then copy/paste them into contacts. If I try this under 9x it looks good after paste but as soon as i hit 'Done' it loses all periods and astericks.
HELP!

I don't know about you, but punctuation is missing in all of my contacts, but I like the look of it.
