Repeat notifications for WhatsApp

My grandfather doesn't frequently check his phone and relies on the phone buzzing every few minutes for notifications. iPhones seem to vibrate only once (with the screen lighting up only once) and then there is no further signs of a new message that hasn't yet been checked.

I was wondering if there were a way to make the iPhone vibrate every few minutes until a WhatsApp or SMS message is checked (jailbreak options are acceptable as well if they exist - I would appreciate it!!)

There is a repeat alert option for the native message app, but I don't know if that works for 3rd-party messaging apps.

Found the solution: requires jailbreak however. Notifier+ does exactly what I've described and has currently been updated for iOS 8.4
