Why am I not able to choose the most recent backup to set up my new iphone?

This morning my iphone died and I was given a new one. I am trying to set it up through icloud but when I get to the "choose backup" it does not let me choose the backup from yesterday. Instead the only one that is highlighted is from 2 years ago and another phone.

Make sure your accessing the right iCloud account if you have more than one

If you have been doing daily backups did you check to see if they were complete?

Make sure your new phone has the latest version of iOS. There are issues trying to restore a backup from a newer version of iOS onto a device running an older version of iOS.
