Why am I getting a distorted iPhone 5s speaker when it rings?

I phone 5s speaker distorted while ringing

On os 8.0.2
bought i phone 5s space grey from apple store 15 days back with factory 7.1.2 updated to 8.0.2 on 2nd day of buying 5s
Theres an issue with the speaker i guess that also only when some one calls i.e when phone rings it makes distorted sounds ( slow sound of the original ring tone but very slow distorted sound ) happened with me only twice in past 10 days !! But it happened
rest speaker works fine while playing music , headphones , or watching any movie , no other issue as such !!

I have observed both times phone was idle for more than 2 hours thats when it made distorted sound!!! just a guess !!!
phone rings well but when i hold it to pick up or move it sounds get distorted or slow version of the ringtone !!!
only happens when headphones are inserted ....

whats causing this distorted sound ? no answer from the apple store as well !!! please help if some one knows the reason !!!!

1.is it hardware ? but then it would have been continuous?
2.is it 8.0.2 i dont know because i am using apple for the first time in my life !!
3. is it water damage or something??
4. or this is because of some settings ??
please advice !!!

You stated "no answer from the Apple store as well", they didn't offer you a new device?

they said after 8.1 update id it still persists

Welcome to iMore....interesting, usually the Apple stores are pretty good with replacing iPhones with problems. Did you speak with a manager/supervisor??

Yes as the issue happened only when i plug in the headphones and happened only 4 times in past 10 days !! They said its an software issue as ringtones change their pitch only while headphones are plugged in !! Waiting for 8.1 now , more over i dont want refurbished models as i have heard mostly they give refurbished handsets !!

Okay...understandable. I personally haven't had any problems with ringtones using my Verizon 5s (iOS 8.0.2) and headphones/earbuds. I hope the next update fixes this issue on your device
