I want to discuss why there is so much emotionality and defensive/offensive behavior when it comes to the choice of something banal like the brand of your phone manufacturer.
I experienced some situations lately, one was about an hour ago, that made me seriously think about this phenomenon. Normal, even non-tech-savvy people really can become quite offensive and impolite.
A friend of mine was asked if my iPhone would belong to her and if she also bought an apple phone (it was laying on the couch in another friends living room). She acted strange and stated with a laugh that she would never buy an iPhone.
Don't get me wrong, this is totally fine. But she was so emotional when saying this that I seriously can't think of her motivation for that.
A colleague which I am on shift right now with was talking to another colleague about the new HTC One (he has the old One). They were talking about the great design and so on. The other colleague states that he doesn't want or can't spend 600 something ? for a cell phone. The one with the One said, yeah, but it can do so much more than an iPhone and that is even more expensive. Right, said the other, I'm not going to buy that either... I just sat there and ignored it because I'm tired of this crap.
So, honestly, why do you think do people act so intolerant when it comes to smartphones and their OSs or manufacturers? I'm experiencing this especially with my apple products MBA and iPhone.
I did want to persuade my friends and family of the iPhone just because I like it so much but I now, maybe even due to the iMore community, stopped caring what others do and think.
What funny is, is that I sometimes get insinuated of being superficial or something because of my so expensive and stylish apple products which can't to anything productive at all when THEY are the superficial ones when they care about that.
Hardly anybody of these people care what car I am driving. And if they did, this conversation would for sure be more objective than the choice of smartphone!
Thoughts?
