Which iPad to buy TODAY?

I'm looking to jump completely into the Apple ecosystem. I was previously an Android user but have been using an iPhone for the vast majority of the last 2 years. I've now finally decided on going all in on Apple. I've got an Apple TV that I got through DirecTV Now and I'm buying an iPhone X. I'm looking at getting an iPad to go along with it, but I don't REALLY want to spend the money for a 10.5" or 12.9" Pro. That leaves me with the iPad Mini 4, iPad Air 2, or iPad 2017. They can all be had at various places for roughly the same price. For something for next couple of years, what would be the recommendation?

Another option would be an Apple Certified Refurbished 9.7 iPad Pro. Here's a link to current listings on Apple's site.

I've looked at those, too. But I'm looking at getting at least a 64gb model of something, and preferably under $450. Even the refurbished models don't meet those criteria.

The iPad Air 2 will be your best bet at this point, and it is still a relevant iPad, in my opinion.

This is the exact choice I made. A year ago last Christmas, I purchased for myself iPad Air 2. Yes, I would’ve preferred to get an iPad Pro but I could not justify spending that amount of money. Then of course they released the iPad in 2017, I and I’m not sure about that one. I’ve never looked at it seriously because I don’t need a new iPad now. I am fairly sure that my future iPad will be one from the pro line.

I hear ya. For me, I think I’m done with the iPad unless it can start being part Mac and part iPad or something. The iPad Pro models, as fast and powerful as they are should have way more capabilities than they offer, in my opinion. With that being said, I will stick with an iPhone and a MacBook Pro for the foreseeable future.

I would say go with the iPad 2017. Will give you everything the other models will and likely be supported longer.

My vote is for the 2017 iPad (iPad 5). I was in a similar situation and replaced my decrepit 2013 Nexus 7 tablet with it. Would I like the power of a Pro? Sure, but the price was right and in reality it suits what I'm doing with it vs. what I think I might have been doing with it. If I was going to be doing photo editing or something on the go then yeah the Pro probably would have been better but I prefer my PC for that stuff anyway.

The 2017 I recently bought is really pretty good, it is so much faster than my iPad gen 3. This gen 5 does everything I need and is around £350, so great value.

I can get a new 128gb model on eBay right now for $300. That's such a good deal. I think that probably makes the most sense for my budget.
