When I have earphones plugged in you can still hear the speaker.

I just bought a used iphone 4. When I have earphones plugged in I can hear through the earphones but everyone else can also hear what I am listening to because the sound is also coming out of the speaker. Any idea what is causing that and what I can do about it?

Hardware issue...repair it.

Try a second set of headphones. If it still happens it is probably the phone. If not its the headphones.
