What's the farthest distance one can go before the Watch loses connection with the iPhone?

How far has everyone been able to go with leaving your iphone in your house and going outside with the watch before you lose the pairing and they stop communicating. I will be receiving my watch today but i wanna know hoe far i can go away from my phone before i have problems

Re: Distance between Watch and Iphone 6

Bluetooth only range will be the same as other bluetooth devices you've used... and your watch can use the same wifi hotspot and your phone to maintain connection... so expect the range of your home wifi separation... when you phone is on cellular - it will be typical bluetooth range...

Re: Distance between Watch and Iphone 6

I have a huge mesh network at home so I can go pretty much anywhere on my property and be on WiFi. I leave my phone in the house all the time and do yard work or play basketball with the kids and still get messages etc.

Oh heck, I don't know. Besides, my iPhone and Watch usually go where I go...;)

I am unable to leave my phone without me and just wear the watch outside. The screen of the watch is so small. and some functions are unavailable.

I've found that situation is ok. I think the Watch's primary purpose is to receive notifications (phone calls, text messages, health activity updates, emails). Watch can do more, but when I'm outside and within my home's WiFi range, getting notifications is working well for me.

Agree the Watch screen is too small to do things like web browsing.

Re: Distance between Watch and Iphone 6

The watch doesn't support 5.4GHz WiFi. If you want to have the largest distance between phone and watch, make sure to connect phone to 2.7GHz. I find that I can go outside and leave phone in the house charging on Wifi. Once in a while the watch doesn't find the phone over WiFi for no apparent reason. Check for the red disconnected icon at the top of the watch screen. Bringing them back together and putting watch into and out of airplane mode usually fixes 'watch over WiFi' for me.

Re: Distance between Watch and Iphone 6

My Apple Watch is connected to both my home's WiFi and a Bluetooth connection directly to my iPhone 6. Essentially, I'm never disconnected from my iPhone at home, in the yard, or upstairs. If I leave the iPhone at home while I take a walk around the block with my dog, the watch breaks its connection when I get out of WiFi range, then automatically reconnects when I return. I've never had to do anything special to reconnect when I get home. The health data it accumulated on my walk (distance, pace, calories, steps) gets transferred automatically to the Health app on my iPhone, also when I get home. Connectivity has been rock solid for me.

It does not connect directly, but connects to any WiFi network your phone connects too. Once connected to WiFi you can do some things without the phone like iMessaging.

Also the phone obviously must remain on the same WiFi.

I believe once the watch connects to the same WiFi network, it no longer needs the iPhone to communicate via iMessage. So, yes, it connected to the same WiFi as the iPhone, but after it does that, you could even turn off the iPhone and iMessage non-cellular connectivity would still work. Of course, once the iPhone is turned back on and in Bluetooth range, it automatically reconnects to the watch and full normal communications among iPhone apps for notifications to the watch resume, including normal SMS traffic. It has a very robust connectivity regimen.

How you connect it to the wifi anyway?

From the Apple Watch Manual:

?Apple*Watch uses Bluetooth? wireless technology to connect to its paired iPhone and uses the iPhone for many wireless functions. Apple*Watch can?t configure new Wi-Fi networks on its own, but it can connect to Wi-Fi networks you?ve set up on the paired iPhone.

If your Apple*Watch and iPhone are on the same network but aren?t connected by Bluetooth, you can also do the following on Apple*Watch without iPhone:

Send and receive messages using iMessage

Send and receive Digital Touch messages

Use Siri?

So, you don't have to do anything. The Apple Watch is an extension of your iPhone and connects automatically to any WiFi networks your iPhone is connected to. If you wander around your home or office out of Bluetooth range, you remain connected to the WiFi with your iPhone's credentials. When you return in Bluetooth range, full functionality is restored automatically.
