What will be the next music medium?

During my lifetime, we’ve enjoyed listening to music via the following:

Radio
Phonograph/records
Reel-to-Reel
8-track
Cassette
Compact Disc
MP3, wav & other digital player
Streaming audio

What could possibly be next?

This is not a joke:
I am truly waiting for implants. You choose on your watch or phone or whatever medium you want to listen to a certain something and it immediately starts steaming to your ears, without the need for any visible hardware on/in your ears.

But for now, I can’t think of anything else.

You may very well be right, and if so, I will not be receptive to any implants, with the exception of something health-related. Know what I mean?

Yep. We’ve all seen movies in which technology takes over and tries to destroy us, or as what’s already happening by humans that use hacks and bugs and such.

I never suspected streaming audio. I always expected the MP3 bitrate to keep increasing, so to answer your question I have no idea!

Why would you need a watch or phone if you had implants?

I don't know what the next thing will be but I don't think it will be implants. That would require, if I understand it correctly, a medical procedure that would have to be approved, done by a medical professional, etc. plus people would have to want to do it on a relatively wide basis in order for it to be feasible. Sounds interesting but I don't know yet.

I like to fantasize about this stuff.
Without fantasies there would be no innovation.
