What should original iPhone 3GS users like me do now ?

Well is your 3gs broken or running poorly? I would say wait 3 months to see if one even comes out, and if not get iphone 4 then. The 3gs is still an awesome phone and runs great. It will take advantage of 90% of what ios 5 has to offer. The other thing you have to think about is if you get iphone 5 if it is released, you won't be able to get iphone 6 possible lte unless you have the cash. But think of it this way, you will never be able to keep up with technology and you can't think like the latter. If you do you will either go broke or mad. You have to get what's out now and enjoy it until it breaks, you are upgrade eligible, have the cash, or it's just completely outdated for everything. I would say waiting 3 months if you can isn't really a big deal. 3gs could even last until iphone 6 IMO. I have i4 so i'll be waiting for i6.

I am a 3GS owner and I am waiting to see what iPhone 5 has to offer, if its nothing that I really really want! Then I will probably stick with 3GS until iOS 5 doesnt run so smoothly on it anymore.

On top of what I just said: I used to upgrade year after year, but now IMO the i4 is so good that I can skip the i5. I would even say the same about the 3gs now (and that's 2 generations). But my thinking was different a year ago, haha. Plus I "accidentally" fell in the lake with my 3gs, which "forced" me to upgrade to i4. 3G and original iPhone are a different story. They are decades behind (exaggerating for dramatic effect).

I say sell your 3GS while they're still worth some bucks (which they should be since iOS 5 covers them too) and buy the i4. Why? i4 is going to be completely compatible with iOS 5, and the i5 will most likely NOT be 4G/LTE yet... Then you'll be free when the i6 comes out? :D

If ya wait, you'll end up waiting forever because there's ALWAYS something bigger and better around the next corner. That's what I told myself, anyway. I was actually due for an upgrade with my own 3GS, and considering Android, etc., but even before the iOS5 announcements, I did as described above, and the i4 caused me to fall irrevocably in love with the iPhone again.

That's my .02 anyway.

Thanks for all the post guys Ive decided I'm going to wait my 3GS is still perfectly usable but I would rather use my upgrade on a brand new phone not one that has been on the market for over a year :)

I would say wait! I have a 3GS & love it! iPhone 4 is a very nice phone too don't get me wrong but being this close to the iPhone 5 I think it would be a little foolish! I plan on getting the 5 once it releases!

I have a 3GS and I'm waiting until 5. 4 is too similar to the 3GS (to me, at least). I mean, it's got a higher screen resolution, a better camera and facetime. Wutev.

I agree with this! I however will end up having to wait to get the i6 (or 5 if the next one up is 4s branded). I had to swith from VZW to AT&T due to unfortunate circumstances and got a 3Gs for $9 at the begining of the year.

I wish I had been able to get the i4. It's a beautiful phone. But needles to say Apple got me hooked. So I'll be with an i device for a long while now ;)

What didn't you like about 3Gs?

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate the thing, just wanted more... the short list behind my upgrade to i4 was:

Slower than the i4 (processor and RAM)
No FaceTime
Lower resolution display
No flash
No microphone noise reduction
and at the time, no free "Find my iPhone"

Negligible...I've yet to see any legitimate comparison that shows much if any different at all in processing speed between the two phones for anything people would actually use the phone for.
