What can I do to reset my IPAD 1st generation 5.01 I forgot the password

My brother gave me his old IPAD 1st generation 5.01 and has moved on to bigger pastures...I would like to reset it without going to ITunes to do so (personal reason). Is there anyway of doing this without going through ITUNES. The original owner(my brother) hasnt got a clue?

No way around it. You can put it in DFU mode and restore via iTunes but you must know the password for the iTunes account that it's associated with after the restore to activate. It's for protection against theft. No way around it.
