Can I ask for opinions on how important you might think anti-virus/malware apps are to phones ?

I don't use anti virus software on my Android phones. Never had a virus on my phones ever.

I wouldn't even use it on an Android device. Just don't visit shady sites or download random files from the internet and you're good

The main phones out there are iOS devices and Android devices. There is very few viruses out there for those two operating system. I wouldn't worry about it. If you had a Windows device, I might worry about it (but that's because windows is filled with viruses). But haven't really heard of an Anti-Virus for a phone.
