Virus message through Whatsapp?

I got this notification banner from whatsapp: " please launch whatsapp to receive messages". Guessing it's a vrius. Anyone else got this and know what to do?

I had the app running the background at the time and closed it straight away.

I'm not a huge user of Whatsapp but I do get spam and phishing iMessages all the time. You should dismiss the notification and delete any new unknown messages from Whatsapp.

In all those years I've been on WhatsApp not once I received spam or viruses sent to me.

That's maybe because I don't give my phone number out to everybody or click on ads.

Since WhatsApp is not able to send documents and files on and to an iPhone you're save for viruses.
