Using iPhone 3G as iPod Touch?

I'm sure this has been covered a million times before, but I just dug out my old iPhone 3G to use as an iPod at work. Restored and set it up as a new phone and all seems well--No Service, wifi works, etc. BUT the question I have is this: because it still has my old AT&T SIM card, it shows my phone number in the settings and in iTunes (when connected). I use that number with my new phone, of course.

Is this a problem? Basically I just don't want someone to swipe it and then be able to activate it to use with my number.

That's kind of what I assumed, it just seems weird that the number still shows up if it's in use on another phone. Thanks.
