iMore

This maybe a totally dumb question but I can't get my head around it.
A lot of people are saying apple is taking on USB C and Samsung and Microsoft already has.
Some phones support USB C but at the device end of the cable. The other end of the cable is a normal USB 2/3 fit and can be charged on almost any USB port in the world.

If Apple are taking on USB C, why not make the iphones USB C and leave normal USB ports on the MacBook so we just need different cables?

With the MacBook Pro I have, I can pick up and take anywhere without cables.

If I got the new one I would need an adapter to use an external hard drive and another adapter to use the SD card from my camera.

It loses the appeal of being a portable device when you constantly need to make sure you have all the accessories to be able to do basic tasks.

What am I missing?
