You have your opinion and I have my opinion.

Yes, the iPhone XS Max has many compromises when it comes to Android devices of similar price.

The thing though is this, to me your stating your opinion of this year’s new iPhones as an objective/unbiased truth. It may be your ‘truth’ but it isn’t my truth, or many other people’s truth I would venture to say. You don’t feel that there is enough there in the XS/Max to warrant your spending your money on them - fair enough. I feel differently and have gone from a X to a XS Max. I gather that you haven’t. So, whichever device you have chosen over the XS/Max I hope gives you as much pleasure and value for your money as my XS Max is doing for me.

... you know, it's sad.. my iPhone Max did not come with a Vacation home, you would think for $1400 it would come with a Vacation home... at least a time-share. /s

People sure do get uptight about silly phones, geez, relax, they are just phones. None of them are perfect and none of them are really all that great anyway. They do what they do, fairly well, leave it at that, use what you want and move on with your lives.

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that this wasn't a "critique free" zone.

For $1,449, the phone should be able to charge up when the screen is asleep. It doesn't.

Works perfectly fine for me.

I honestly think most of this just comes from people wanting to justify not spending money that they really can't afford to spend on a product that they really want.

Good god, that's not what I'm talking about.

For $1,449, the device should come with a headphone jack adapter. It doesn't. Extra $10. For $1,449, it should come with fast charging. It doesn't. Extra $70 for the adapter. For $1,449, the phone should be able to charge up when the screen is asleep. It doesn't. Wait 1 month for that patch to come through. For $1,449, the phone shouldn't have weak cell phone reception/WiFi connection. It does, wait until next year's models for that to be fixed.

I've purchased $300 devices that worked better than these "premium" devices.

Years ago, years ago I purchased (well used) a Porsche 944. It was modified a bit for the California mountains and passes, it was a blast to drive. Even stock, that car came with roll up by hand windows and no air conditioner. Radio was AM/FM,not even a cassette desk. I knew what I was getting when I purchased the car... was exactly what I expected for the $ I paid. Could I have got a nicer car with the bells, whistles, cassette deck, electric seats and windows for less... you bet. But I got what I wanted at that time. Enjoy whatever you purchased...or in this case, did not.

To be fair, it doesn't sound like the OP has dropped money and then ran here complaining about what it doesn't have. The OP appears to be asking a question about the capabilities of a potential purchase. And that's fair. It's also fair, in my opinion, to be bothered by a device that costs over $1000 that doesn't have the latest features that can be found on many other devices in it's price range. But at the end of the day, you have to purchase what works for YOU. If it doesn't have what you want, then move on to the next device. Or wait until next year. This years model is out in the wild and nothing about it is going to change. So there's no point in harping on it.

In regards to USB 2.0 vs. 3.0, yes the speeds are faster but I don't believe the majority are connecting their devices to a computer. I could be wrong about this but I would imagine you'll find those who connect to a computer are in the minority and because of that, it's not worth the cost of implementing. Just my opinion, though.

iMore doesn't mind critique but you're border line spamming and that will not be tolerated. It's as though your trying to incite arguments by constantly posting negative with every single post and you don't even use the device. Consider yourself warned. NO response necessary it won't be accepted.

I was able to exchange the 512GB iPhone XS Max I had with another 512GB iPhone XS Max today (N.B.: I'm grateful for the 14-day return/exchange window!) at my local Apple Store just to see if there'd be any issues and so far I'm not experiencing the issues like I did with the other iPhone. Now the phone is working great and it's actually a joy to use. My cell reception is strong and I do not have any display issues. The phone still won't charge up unless the display is on, but a software update will fix that, I've been told.

My apologies for being short with those of you here in this thread and on this site. I should not have taken out my frustrations with any of you. Spending $1,449 on a phone with issues can be nerve-racking.

I'm confused. You said that you returned your iPhone Xs Max back to BestBuy on the 28th of September. Now you've recently exchanged it at the Apple Store? Which is it? However, I'm glad to hear that this iPhone Xs Max is fairing better than your first. Good Luck with it.

Glad you were able to get an exchange that works for you.

I guess you can't say anything negative about the precious iPhone. He can't state his opinion without 5 people giving him crap. He stated legit shortcomings. And than wiseguys have to respond with I'm so upset I didn't get a house with my iPhone blah, blah, blah. It should come with USB 3.0,they should include a fast charging brick, they should include a dongle. And just so you know I have a iPhone xs max and a Note 9. And the Note 9 with that stupid curved screen serves no purpose so I complain equally.

Once again critique is ok as well as venting, but a constant bashing post after post serves no purpose. This has been visited and we're done. Thanks for your post. Have a nice day.

I know, right? I had an iPhone XS Max that had problems (and now one that doesn't have any issues except for charging) and everyone here just brushed them off like no big deal and thought I was making them up despite the fact that many people over on Reddit, YouTube, Twitter, and Mac Rumors have the same issues.

. Yes, you can. People do it all the time.
He can't state his opinion without 5 people giving him crap.
Therein lies the problem. Some of you think that you can post your comments and opinions as if they are laws to be followed and obeyed. You have no interest in reading the comments and opinions of others, especially those who disagree. Well, this is iMore. The members here are eager to help as well as eager to share their views, whether in agreement or in opposition.

The OP does not have legitimate "shortcomings". He has gripes.

. Why?
And just so you know I have a iPhone xs max and a Note 9. And the Note 9 with that stupid curved screen serves no purpose so I complain equally.
Good to know.

To you they are gripes. To him and I and a lot of other people they are shortcomings. Why should it come with all that stuff? Because they are selling a $1000 product. No need to nickel and dime us to death

So because you feel you’re spending a lot of money on a phone you believe it should come with what you feel is appropriate? Lol
