Upgrade from 6s Plus to 7 Plus or 8 Plus

Hello everyone!

I've had the 6s Plus 64gb for a few years now and will own it in two more payments ($60.00). My battery has gone bad and Apple is offering to replace it for $29.00 and I have to get my screen replaced for another $29.00. So I could have a new 6s Plus for $40.00 and own it in two more payments OR I can upgrade to the 7 Plus or 8 Plus. The 7 Plus would be a bit cheaper and I hear a great phone. I've read some bad reviews on 8 Plus.

So here is the thing. Just want some opinions on what some of you iPhone lovers would do:

  • Keep 6S plus and pay $40.00 for new battery and new screen?
  • Upgrade to 7Plus
  • Upgrade to 8Plus

I know it's my choice but just hoping to hear some thoughts on what your experiences have been and if worth an upgrade at all?

Thanks in advance!

I opted to get a 7+ over an 8+ back in October. So keep that in mind when I say that if you’re good with your 6s+ then I’d fix it and keep it. I love my 7+ and I’m sure the 8+ is better but in ways I probably would never notice. Personally I don’t think it’s worth it if you’re happy with your 6s+. The differences from one generation to the next keeps becoming less noticeable.

I agree with TwitchyPuppy! I think fixing your 6s Plus, and selling it makes sense. At this point, I'd choose an 8 Plus over the 7 Plus, because new models will be coming out in the fall, and to me, a newer model makes sense. It will give you more time, because the 7 Plus will become obsolete a year or so before the 8 Plus does.

You will still probably have 3-4 years with the 7 Plus, but you'd have 4-5 years with the 8 Plus. Those are just estimates.... it could be more, it could be less! :)

If I were in your position, I would pay the $58 to get the replacement battery and screen repaired. We are probably 5 months away from the introduction of Apple's next flagship iPhone model. Your current device can already run iOS 11.3 and if you're intent on getting an iPhone 7 or iPhone 8, the price will be even cheaper after the closer we get to September. Heck, waiting could possibly give you time to save and pay for your next iPhone outright.
