Updating from 5.1.1 to 6.1.3

I currently have a jailbroken iPhone 4 on 5.1.1. After many attempts to upgrade to 6.1.3 getting many errors like 1601 for instance I am stumped. I have tried tinyumbrella, ireb, modifying the host file, downgrading itunes to 10.3. I am not sure what else to try. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

1st off, welcome to iMore. Put your device into DFU mode and restore as new thru iTunes. If you aren't sure how to do this, read this guide and it should clear it up for you. GL

You are aware that there is only a tethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 running 6.1.3. However on 5.1.1, it's untethered.

Just thought I'd bring this to your attention.

I assume he want to be stock cause I agree, no reason to go from untethered to tethered. And I edited your post, he has a 4 not 5

There are no tethered jailbreaks for iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. I wish there was. It's possible with a 4th gen iPod and older devices and also possible with iPhone 4 and older devices.

It was likely a typo. If you read the original post, the user looking for help has a 4.

Something I'd be more curious about, does the original poster have SHSH blobs for 6.0.x? If so, they might be able to upgrade to ios6 without losing their untethered jailbreak. While rdiddy assumes they want stock, it's also quite possible they have an app that requires 6.0 to work.
