Unlocking iPhone 4S for international

I have a question in regards to unlocking my iPhone 4S (Sprint) to work internationally with SIM cards of other countries, specifically Costa Rica. I called Sprint and they said that they will forward the request to Apple in order to unlock the phone.

As I wait, I wanted to know, when using a SIM card of another country, I can't use my phone number correct? In other words, I will be using the phone number associated with the SIM card.

Yes, you will be using the number associated with the SIM and it's account with the provider.
