Unlocked iPhone on Sprint?

A friend of mine wants to buy an unlocked iPhone, but she has Sprint as her provider. I know there is no real difference between AT&T and Sprint since both are GSM but not sure if the iPhone will work on the Sprint network.

Is this something that can be done and if so, will she lose an functions in the iPhone?

Sprint is CDMA, not GSM. iPhone will not work on the Sprint network.

Thanks for the help. I thought Sprint was GSM, especially since it has the worst reception of the networks. I guess they just lease too few towers. I'll let her know.
