Unlocked iPhone 6 or Verizon iPhone 6

Hello everyone. Maybe someone can explain this to me. I just recently purchased an iPhone 6 for my girlfriend at an Apple store. I purchased the unlocked version. Isn't the Verizon version unlocked? The apple genius rep made it seem that i would be better off purchasing the Verizon one instead. Thank you in advance.

The Verizon model is unlocked for GSM network use anywhere... and has all the global LTE bands (except for China)... the Apple unlocked/sim free model has radio bands for China that other models do not... If you're going to put the phone on Verizon, a Verizon model from the AppleStore would be the way to go.
