Would an unlocked ATT 5s work on Verizon? I know it works the other way around (Verizon to ATT). I want to sell mine but I want to be sure not give my buddy any problems on Verizon.
After more than 15 years covering everything Apple, it’s with a heavy heart we announce that we will no longer be publishing new content on iMore and the iMore forums will be closing as of November 1st, 2024.
The quick answer is; it would work. AT&T 5s to Verizon
The new concept to grasp is that Apple made devices to have certain carrier bands and to have all models to have a LTE bands available.
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - all models
CDMA 800 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 - A1533 (CDMA), A1453
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 - A1533 (GSM), A1453
CDMA2000 1xEV-DO - A1533 (CDMA), A1453
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 - A1457, A1530
4G Network LTE- all models
AT&T has the A1453 GSM model, however all models of the iPhone 5s have LTE bands, so it would work on Verizon
-the reverse-
Verizon has A1453 CDMA model, however all models of the iPhone 5s have LTE bands, and can work on AT&T's 4G LTE network.
The quick answer is that it "could" work from a technology standpoint. The quick answer is; it would work. AT&T 5s to Verizon
....
I know this is an old thread... and I know that the iPhone 6/6s have different internals than the 5s...
However I have an iPhone 6+ that was originally LOCKED to AT&T. It has since been unlocked through a request to AT&T (hooked to iTunes to complete unlock upon iPhone restore.)
I have a coworker who has a Verizon 5S and I put his SIM in my iPhone 6+ and to my pleasant surprise upon reboot it said "Verizon LTE" and also had all the cellular data/voice working perfectly through his Verizon SIM. I popped my ATT SIM back in and it works with ATT still, as well.
SO... I'd imagine the "point" of saying that Verizon wont activate a phone that was not "originally" made/registered for/to Verizon is incorrect, at least for the 6/6+.
Again, an old thread, but possibly will help someone while searching...
