Total disk space shows 28.1 GB for a phone which is 32 GB. Why ?

Same with a Windows computer. Some space is used for the System and thus is never available to the user.

The operating system is taking up that space. You never get the full amount of space that the product advertises.

1 gb is for ios and the other 2.5-3 gb is for system apps and features such as siri. and other things among that that i cannot recall at the moment.

Not only does iOS take up about 1 GB of space, the actual disk space varies because of the definition of a GB, and what is advertised as a GB. Apple usually warns that actual disk capacity may very.

The problem is computers and iOS use base 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32...) while Apple advertised 32 GB in base 10. It works out that you get around 6.4% less that what is advertised.

lol people just dont realize most of the time that the os takes up space. my garage is 300 sq ft but i added cabinets so it is really 250 sq ft .
