Hit the triangle button on the top right corner of the spam post and help report it

Thanks

Is there no way to control this? It's getting out of hand and ruining the threads!

Do you think the mods are sitting around all day waiting for messages so they can delete the spam? If so, you've never been a mod before. I am guessing some of them actually have a real world job to tend to.

There's very little that can be done to control the spam. Just report the post/thread in which you see the spam and let the mods do their thing (which they do rather well).

I personally don't find it any worse than it has been (as you will come to know if you stick around the forum for any length of time). Does it ruin a thread? Only if you let it. It's easy enough to ignore and once reported will be deleted soon enough.

I have one idea: ban anyone who uses Cialis as part of their screen name. There are currently 16 members listed with that, and I'll wager they are all spammers.

My bigger question is this: why can't spammers on TiPB figure out how to create hyperlinks correctly?!?

@ghostface: nothing stopping spam filters being put in place to stop the bots.

I think ir does ruin the threads, I look at this forum with my iphone and ir's damn well annoying having to scroll down 2 miles just to get to a real reply!

That's not necessarily what they were getting at.

I believe there are some automated ways that help prevent spam - such as preventing users from posting more than once in less than 30 seconds, which won't actually hinder the vast majority of people, but will hinder spam bots.

As i've stated before, the Mods are doing a great job with this spam problem. For what ever reason, this website seems to be targeted. Anyway, my solution involves physical violence, and since that's out, i'll just go with reporting the spam when i see it. I'm trying to use the Force on the spammers!:)

Like Garz said, report it. Creating more threads like this is no different than spam if you think about.

On this subject, I wonder if you'd consider allowing us to report more than one post per minute? Since users are being asked to police the spammers, it would help to give us a little more power. I know I would report more threads if I could do it all in a go; as it is, it feels like users are being punished for trying to do the right thing.

Just an idea.

Keep in mind, you only have to report one post in a spammed thread, and you only have to report the user once, even if he's posted in 30 threads.

You also don't have to report in the threads that are getting spammed 3-4 times/day. We know to check them every time we turn on a browser.

My observation is that they are doing a pretty good job. By the time I see it in my e-mail it has usually already been removed from the forum.

If we are logged in, we get it removed right away.

Is it possible to give rights to delete spam to who ever starts a topic, to self moderate?

I agree that spam can get to be frustrating after a while. However, reporting the problem posts and waiting for the moderators to handle it is the best solution. As Alli said above, the staff checks the reported threads when they log on....

The problem with that is more than spam will get deleted. Others users posts would get removed by topic holder if he/she doesnt like a reply. Would cause more problems with angry members than it would help. Let us mods take care of the removing posts. If it takes a bit for them to get removed, its not going to hurt anything or anybody.

Reporting one per minute is fine considering there are many users on at one time and often times the same spam will get reported more than once. Regarding users asked to "police the spammers", I don't agree with that one bit. Spam is part of any forum regardless whether we like it or not. As a member you have the right to report it or not. What you do is completely up to you. Either way you can rest be assured when a moderator comes across spam it is taken care of.
