...and even the rep from apple was pretty certain that they'll let me upgrade early, i mean, it's 3 weeks away, it's not that far away...

I called today too about my failing BlackBerry and they refused as well :( but, it was enough to get my mom to cave and let me use her update, so I got my iPhone anyway :D

LUCKY!!!! You're lucky, my mom's update is the same day as mine! =[ FML.

Are you on a family share plan? My mom's "date" was April 28th, but because she's the primary on the line she gets to update after a year at the discount price. I did an alternate upgrade (using her update on my line) and voil?!

I do have a family plan and there are 4 lines on it. Unfortunately my brother stole my mom's actual upgrade back in the summer when he messed up his phone. so now she is going to use his upgrade which is about 2 or 3 days earlier then mine. So i think, since you can upgrade early with any other phone BUT the iPhone, i'll use that date's upgrade and she'll use the upgrade which is a few days later and they should let her upgrade early cause she wants a basic phone.

Here are the ONLY ways to get a new phone while you have not reached the end of your 24 month contract:

#1 -- Buy at Full Retail Price
#2 -- If your account is grandfathered in -- Primary line can upgrade after 12 months of service.
#3 -- Add an additional line to family share plan.
#4 -- You should be able to upgrade on Month 20 of a 2 year contract, or month 10 on a 1 year contract with signing a new 1 or 2 year contract.

For #3 you can reduce your costs by moving an old "Dumb Phone" to your new line and move your new device to the line you really wanted to upgrade.

From experience those are the only legal ways to get a new phone before your 24 month contract has expired.

Almost forgot #5. End your contract and pay the ETF. You are now free to open a new line of service.

+1
Assuming your not already in contract in a Family Shared Plan, the least expensive way to obtain an iPhone NOW is to go with option #3. That's what I would have done had I not been eligible for an upgrade.

It's kinda funny OP, I was in your exact situation. I bought 2 bold 9650's. One for my wife and one for myself, almost a yr ago. (I'm going to try and make this as short as possible).

I called last night to try and get an iphone from customer service. With a BS threat of leaving the VZW carrier lol. Well she wasnt having it and I cant blame her. So I had to brain storm another idea:

I have a family plan between my wife and I. She told me I had a few options.

-Cancel my BB contract for 300 bucks and go to ATT for the phone.
-Buy a phone outright from vzw retail.

No thanks.

What I did was I added a 3rd line (and 2yr contract) to my account (I call it the dummy line) with a iphone 4. I then had them replace my BB with the iphone 4 on my main account and put a cheap Verizon flip phone I had (doesn't require a data plan) on the newly created dummy account. Maybe Ill take it fishing and hunting so if i drop it in the water or something it wouldn't be a big deal. [My advice to you would be buying a cheap used phone from craigslist to use as your "dummy phone".] You cant use pre-paid phones because your acct must be active for 6 months before you can use a pre-paid phone for full service use.

Now, I pay an extra 10 bucks a month for the dummy line, but I am not paying 10 bucks a month for the VZ Navigator on the BB anymore thanks to iphones epic .99ct gps app motionX. So it evens itself out.

Also I am now stuck with another 2yr contract on that 3rd line. But I will still have my other two lines that are upgradeable Sept. 4th of 2011. (Due to their 1yr early upgrade promotions). SO... When the new iphone 5 comes out whenever that is I can upgrade myself aswell as my wife's lines to the newest model. THEN, when something bigger and better comes out the next time around I will use the dummy line to upgrade once again and the cycle continues.

I have throughly gone over this with in store customer service as well as 3 different Verizon employees over the phone. So unless im missing something, its a EPIC Win for me.

If I'm missing something then I may have to change that EPIC win to and EPIC fail :p But all i know is, I just bought an iphone 4 for 200 bucks and im as happy as can be.

Just add a line

$9.99 a month, then transfer it over to your main.

Then when you main becomes available you will be able to get next iphone

I wish i could, but it's not my family plan. My mother is the account holder, and my father pays for it, so if i asked him to do that, he'd probably yell at me and tell me to wait 2 and a half weeks lol. . . I'm only 18
