Fell four feet from pocket landed on rubber mat and screen shattered. Guess time for a case.

It's all in how it lands.....I am going with no case on my 5 for the first time on a phone, and wouldn't you know I have dropped it from 4ft and 5ft with not even a scratch, both times on tile floor. First time it landed on top corner on the screen side, second time face down after I tried to catch it and ended up bobbling it several times before accidentally spiking it screen down from 5 ft high.
Luck of the draw I guess.

Check out the SPIGEN SGP Neo Hybrid EX bumper. It comes with a 3-piece back clear protectors, and a front screen protector. The Bumper is silicone and then has a plastic piece that goes around that. I have the white iPhone 5 and it looks really nice, the plastic piece is silver, so it matches the original look of the iPhone 5 - plus the back is not covered up so you can still see the awesome 2 toned design.

You can find them around $30-35.

Don't know of any smart phone that is considered to be "tough". Glass breaks, end of story. If you don't want a normal case at least look at a pouch case for when you are not using it/in your pocket, etc...

That must have been some great rubber. I have dropped my iphone from all sorts of heights and various angles and still have yet to get a crack anywhere on my screen. I guess you just got the short straw. If anything have the screen replaced but still continue to roll naked thats what Steve would've wanted :)
