What device are you using? I haven't had that happen. You could try a reboot or a restore if it's necessary

Sound issues usually get resolved by a simple iDevice restart.

I had an issue where the iPhone sound would not transfer over to my car stereo via the AUX cable once I plugged it in to the iPhone 5 earphone jack. The sound would continue on the iPhone. This happens only occasionally but always gets resolved after I restart the iPhone.
