mine was saying 2.2.1 was current from 1pm to 1:10pm... I shutdown iTunes and started it again and first check got it downloading... first 160+MB downloaded within a minute and then it slowed... estimating about 1.5min for the next 30MB.

I'm not saying you need to restart iTunes to get it... I'm just stating what worked for me.

I had to do the same.

I finally got it to start after clicking the update button about 8 times, started out fast, said only 3 minutes for the whole thing, has now slowed to 11 minutes remaining, I guess too many people are downloading it now..
