text message sounds

Is there any way to put different text sounds on the phone. I hate the few that are on there now.Thanks

not 100% sure but besides whats on there i don't think you can without jailbreaking, however if i am wrong, feel free to correct me

+1 I'm fairly certain you have to jailbreak to customize your text alerts.

You know, it's pretty sad that you have to jailbreak your phone just to add new text tones. The same goes for email tones. The one email tone you get absolutely sucks. Why does Apple lock these features? If I can add ringtones, I should be able to do so with SMS and email tones.

I almost want to get rid of my iPhone because of this.

It is slightly annoying that everyone has the same sounds. Not nearly annoying enough to switch phones, though. There are some things I have to live with in order to have what I want and currently, the iPhone is still worth the minor inconveniences.
