Syncing multiple calendars

After spending 5-10 minutes searching the forum, I did not find the exact answer to my question, so here it goes...

Scenario: Currently using the iPhone for personal use only, syncing to my home laptop/Outlook. However, will be starting a job where they use iPhones (and assume they are using MS Outlook calendar).

Question: How can I synchronize my iPhone to pick up calendar items from my personal laptop, as well as from my work laptop -- but keep both calendars segregated? In other words, business appointments should not appear on my home laptop/Outlook, and personal appointments should not appear on my work laptop/Outlook.

Extra Credit: the above assumes I am only adding/editing events on the laptops, but what about if I want to add an event right into (one of the two calendars on) the iPhone??

I do know that your work calender will not sync to your computer. That would be a security issue. So both calender will synch to your phone. Now. When you open calenders to make a new entry you would just select which calender category you are making it for.

I also know that you are allowed only one exchange account. Hope this info will lead you in the right direction.

Unless you have software to allow syncing to multiple computers, you can only sync with 1 computer. I suspect, they use Exchange at work. This allows wireless sync with your iPhone and in this case, the accounts are separate. This is what I have and use for my home info and then work info.

Problem - syncing iPhone to MacBook (personal data) and also to Exchange Server for work data.

I want to have both sets of data on my iPhone, but will all the data (contacts and calendars) merge on the iPhone, and then sync everything (personal and work) back to both sources (laptop and Exchange server)

Does anyone know if this possible ie to keep data sets separate on the iPhone?

I sync an exchange calendar for work and use Google calendar synced with iCal for a personal calendar. You can also sync your personal calendar to your google calendar using google calendar sync or even better and faster, the google sync program, Companionlink.

Well, I don't have much in my calendar, and none of it is a security risk, so I probably don't have the restrictions some do. I have the desktop google calendar sync app on my work machine setup to sync Outlook (Exchange connected - something MobileMe won't do for whatever shortsighted reason) with a google account (one way to google). I then sync it with the iPhone via CalDAV to that google account. I can view the calendar in the native iPhone app alongside my personal calendar.

I also sync my personal calendar at home using the google calendar sync, Outlook, and MobileMe control applet. So I have my personal calendar on (yet another) google, home Outlook, and MobileMe. On the iPhone, I have the connection to that google account setup as an Exchange connection (for push and so I can actually send out meeting requests to friends, family, etc.). Don't really use the MobileMe side very much (Apple is close, but there are just some basic features they are sorely missing - meeting requests support being my chief complaint, and I don't think of it as a "business-only" type need).

Kind of a bird's nest of syncing, but it seems to work well for my limited needs. If MobileMe (on the desktop) allowed syncing Exchange connected Outlook calendars to say, a "Work" calendar on MobileMe, then this all wouldn't be necessary, and I'd be much happier with a consolidated calendar on there. Or if the iPhone allowed more than one Exchange account connection.

currently I have an exchange account that syncs to my Iphone and I have a MobileMe account that syncs to my phone. but the calender on my home computer does not synch up with the calender on my work computer and vice versa. but I do see both calenders on my iphone. if I make a change to either calender on my Iphone it will show up on its perspective computer almost immediately! I have no qualms with how this system is working for me.

If I needed my home and work calenders to sync up I would have enable the VPN network in order to get work info on my home computer. that is an IT operation and I would need the super secret code to access that network. If my job felt I need it then I would have all three in sync.

Another option is to use a Google calendar for your personal info and then Informant or CalenGoo type apps to sync that to your phone. They use their own calendar database so you could have two separate calendars. It would require you to look between both. Luckily for me work uses Google Calendars so I have it all in one place.
