Sync Playlist Bug?

Hi all,

I'm new here and I've looked (butmaybe not long enough?) and I cannot find anything that tells me if there is a glitch with syncing my playlist from iTunes to my Iphone 5c? I can never get my playlist on iTunes to transfer to my iPhone (to music of course). I thought I read somewhere there was a bug/glitch?

It is driving me nuts as I lose the one I create on my iPhone every time I have to update my phone. Like I said, I have one created in iTunes, I just can't get it to transfer to my phone.

Thanks in advance!

This happened to me as well (but on my 5S), and it was incredibly frustrating to me as well. The good news, though, is that there's a fairly simple fix. All you have to do is plug in your iPhone like you normally would and let it sync (even though the playlist won't transfer); after it's done, check the "manually manage music and videos" box (refer to screenshot below) and it will delete all of your content. You will then select everything that you want to go back on your device, but don't stress over the content as this is just temporary. Now, depending upon the number of songs and videos stored in your library, the removal and replacement of the content might take a while (mine took around 45 minutes solely for the music) - so make sure you do this when you have some free time. Now, once the content has been restored, you simply need to uncheck the box ("manually manage music and videos") that you checked before and then you'll need to manually remove all the content left on the device. The easiest way to do this is just by going into the iPhone's sync page, then tabs, and unchecking the music and/or video boxes, thus removing all remnants of your media. Finally, you'll want to sync the phone again as you normally would, checking any and all playlists that you'd like to be included and it should sync like a charm. Hope this helps. :)

Thank you Jake! Ok, so when it went to delete all of my content (I don't understand why it is doing that?), I got this warning: I don't know what to do.Untitled-5.jpg

Does the computer that you're syncing it with have all the content that you're going to want on your iPhone? If so, then I'd just go ahead and click 'Erase and Sync'. I didn't get that message when I did it, but if all your content is on that computer then I don't see the harm as it's all easily replaceable via sync.

I assume it is talking about my music files and voice memos (my dad died on Father's Day 2013 so I don't want to lose those)? I may have old music on my laptop that I don't have on my phone? Is that what it means?

Oh. Well, that changes things because while I don't think that it would remove the voice memos, you just never know, so I absolutely would not do it until you transfer those to another source. And yes, it could very well be residual from your last computer.

Hi again! So when it asks me if I want to replace the 1st Library with the 2nd, the problem is, the 2nd one is old. So if I don't want to do that, I can't proceed. What do I do? The 2nd one is the library on my old PC, which isn't up to date.

Hello again!

All right, if your phone contains all of your music, including what is already on the computer, then you'll want to clear out your old library (from your computer) and then use Music Rescue, which will pull all the music from your iPhone and copy it to your computer. It's a very easy program to use and the free version should suffice. Last time I used it, it made me click a button every 50 songs to continue, but it was merely a blip and didn't make it any more difficult. Once you've got it all copied, just drag and drop it all into iTunes. You'll then be ready and able to erase and sync your iPhone!

Thanks! I want to transfer my playlist from itunes to my phone though. Will that do it?

You're welcome. After you've gone through the steps (checking the manual sync box and what not), it should sync the playlist with iTunes without a problem. I had the same issue and since I did this, I haven't had another occurrence.

What do you click once you check manual manage music and video"?

After you check the box, click 'Apply'.

Ugh, that is what I do and it says there is an older library. I tried deleting the previous libraries off my laptop, but it still says that.

Maybe it's on my PC? I never go on it though and don't know if it even has internet anymore.

Yeah, it's probably on the PC. I'd just see if you can find it. I won't be much help there, though - I'm a Mac user.
