Hey all, I have my new iPad Pro coming in soon and I currently have a 1st Gen iPad Pro (Verizon LTE).

Would I just take the SIM out of my current iPad Pro and stick it in the new one, or simply activate the one in the new iPad? Will I need to go into a Verizon store/call Verizon at all?

In addition, I’m planning on give my current iPad to my parents, who are also on Verizon. Will there be any issues there depending on SIM cards?

So I’m in the same situation. 1st Gen IPP on Verizon and just got the new 12.9. Verizon will ship your new iPad with its own SIM that’s already attached to your account so you won’t need to swap SIMs. As far as your 1G IPP you can activate that IPP with the same SIM in it. As soon as you remove a SIM from a device and insert into a different device Verizon will lock your line and force you to call their fraud prevention department to get it unlocked. Happened to me when I went from iPad Air 2 to 1G 12.9 and tried to switch SIMs. I got a lecture as to why I should always contact them to get the device activated on my account

Thanks for the info! Also, I purchased from Apple though, not Verizon, and when I purchased I didn’t sign in with my Apple ID (thought I did, but for some reason my order is not connected to my Apple ID and I can’t link it (that’s a whole different issue!))

Should I call Apple and try and get them to sync my order with my Apple ID? Or when I get my new iPad just activate cellular on the device and sign into my Verizon account on the device itself after I sync the new device from backup?

Hmmmm this is kinda tricky. I would say that if your IPP ships with a SIM card then you can just call Verizon and give them the info off your iPad and they’ll be able to activate on your data plan (keep in mind you’ll pay the one time fee of $35 to activate a device) . If your IPP ships without a SIM you should go to a Verizon store and they’ll provide a SIM right there and help you activate it on your data plan (make sure you go to a corporate store and not one of those authorized retailers, they’re kinda sketchy).

As far as calling Apple I would call them get the order linked to your Apple ID in case you have any issues or if you have a giveback refund associated with this order it’ll all be smooth sailing. Linking your Apple ID shouldn’t help/hurt activating your device

I just took the SIM card from my old iPAD Pro 10.5 and put it in a new one I was sent by Verizon after I broke my screen and was lucky enough to have the Asurian insurance. The swapped the SIM card thinking that I wouldn’t have to change the phone number assigned to my iPad by Verizon (which doesn’t really matter). I still had to call Verizon, so in the end, it would not have mattered either way.

You can call / activate the one the comes
You can use the one that's active... I noticed from AT&T when I moved it from my iPad Air 2, to my 10.5 Pro, the AT&T Site shows my iPad active as the Air 2, to this day. So if you don't mind incorrect info, just swap sims and go.
