I am going to add my wife to my ATT plan when the 5 comes out, but she isn't necessarily in need of the newest, just an iPhone. If we buy the 5 when we add her line, can I switch the 5 to my number after activation?

Thanks...

Yes you can. Have them do it at the store. Backup your phone before going. Then you'll need to wipe your old iPhone so she can start using your old iPhone on her line.

Yeah, it looks like the new iPhone is probably going to use a new type of SIM card, so the SIM swap is going to be like going from a 3GS to a 4, when they switched from regular SIM to micro SIM (i know AT&T would give one free SIM but afterwards they apparently charge $25...not sure if that stayed the same).

You could use the same SIM card, you'll just may have to cut it down some to fit.

That's a lot to go through than having the rep doing it right there and then, when getting the new iPhone.

But yes, you can trim it... ( If that's what you wanted to hear ;) )

LOL no was just saying for the record. :)

As for someone's previous post Verizon doesnt use SIM cards, unless it's a world phone but even still the phone would need to be SIM unlocked to use with another carrier.

All of Verizon's 4g LTE phones use sim cards. And my mention of Verizon is just to show that both carriers do offer free sim cards when one needs replaced for such a situation as this.

You say ATT will give you a free SIM, so when I receive the 5 it comes with the SIM already in it, do I go to ATT and request a new one with my number on it? Just a little confused on how that process would work...

Just go to att corp. store and tell them you want to swap phones and you need Sims set up appropriately.
