Welcome to iMore! There's nothing that you have to do but if you're trashing your old AppleTV, giving away, or selling it make sure you set it back to factory defaults so you're not inadvertently giving someone else access to your iTunes account. On a gen 1 AppleTV I believe you would go to Settings > General > Reset.
