Switching between AirPods and phone

When someone calls me (or I make a call) and I switch source from AirPods to “phone” or “speaker” in few seconds it switches back again to the AirPods. And then I have to switch it back again.

Is there a way to stop this? It happens even when I untoggle Bluetooth icon.

Have you tried to un-pair (forget device) and re-pair your AirPods?
