I want to upgrade to a 3GS but Im not eligible for an upgrade because I got the 3G on launch day. However, one of the lines on my family plan is eligible for an upgrade (my step dads line). My question is this: If I go and buy a 3GS using the eligible line, can I then take the sim out of my current 3G and put it in my new 3GS so that I can keep my current number instead of having to use my stepdads number? Any help is MUCH appreciated!!

And I'm assuming he's getting your 3G? (Because you've got to do SOMEthing with it). Whether he's getting it or not though, I don't see any problem with switching sims. When you go to the store to get the new phone, just take the old phone with you and heck, they'll probably even do the deed for you!

I already checked, my line isnt eligible for early upgrade. Im only eligible for the mid grade pricing of $399/$499. Im gonna sell my 3G to a friend of a friend to fund the $300 32GB upgrade. I was worried about being stuck paying for two data plans but we had the data plan removed a while back. Thanks for the help everyone.

Yes. You can. You don't have to do it in secret because you can upgrade on your dads line but have the phone work on yours. That's what I did with my 3G last October.
