He's referring to ad block apps that only work in Safari. Those like AdBlock that block ads in other apps can no longer update due to Apple's restrictions.

I wasn't talking about apps that block ads in apps.

They don't really need to be updated on the app store. Install one that has an option to update the filter list through the adblock app itself.

I haven't checked all of them, but one in particular that updates the block list via the app is AdBlock Plus. The app itself in the app store hasn't been updated in a year and probably doesn't need to be. The bit you wanna update is from within the app itself.

If you find ads in Safari that are not getting blocked you need to report the ad to the app developer. They depend on those reports to keep the filters updated.
