As I said I only brought this up due to the amount of spam this site has gotten, not because "oh it happens all the time" I think everyone knows that does happen on the internet.

spammers aren't stupid, they go where the traffic is, and they know that with the Verizone iPhone announcement there is going to be tons of traffic on iPhone blogs/forums. It's going to be this way until probably after the launch and then a little longer.

The best is to make new user accounts type those phrases for authentication, you know the ones where you can barely read the letters and numbers? Those prevent spam postings on sites such as CNN and Foxnews and msnbc.

That stops bots,

A lot of the Spam I see to personalized to be bot created. (such as starting text that relates to the thread)

Spam bots always get you. Had this problem when I was a mod on CB. These sites just need a stricter registration process and that would eliminate much of the spam.
