Is there a way to turn the ringer volume up, but turn the volume on the email or message alerts down(not off just lower)?

No, you can only raise and lower all tones. I use a silent ring tone on mine. I only need to be notified about text and emails. I have a company cell for calls.

Yes. Go into settings/sounds. From there go through each item (ringer, text, mail, msg etc)and choose NONE which is at the top of each list as a sound tone, and this will silent them. However, to have it just a lower sound is not possible.

(sorry I mis read your post thinking you wanted the other tones silent)
