So my Dad is old right and NEVER upgrades his phone. His phone still dates back to when Cingular first took over. As long as it makes calls he is a happy camper. In fact both sides of the screen (old Moto flip) are busted and he cant see who calls. Lol. And yes, he STILL doesnt care.

So I called him today and asked if I could use his upgrade and grab the new iPhone 3GS and he said it was okay. I went and placed the order through Apple.com and got the 8GB white for 199.99 Paid for it and got a confirmation #.

What is even better is that the status shows delivery by the 19th. My question is, has something changed? Last I read all pre-orders were sold out and there was a 2 week waiting list. Did Apple get more made or something? I even went as far as to call and check and the rep did say I will see it by the 19th.

What do you all think?

*You should respect your parents , so dont call him OLD , even if he is

*Shouldnt you have paid $99 only, since he has never upgraded in the past ?

* Any orders you place now, says Delivers by 19th. and it should since Apple still has more 8Gigs in stock than AT&T

Word.

I didnt mean it in terms of "old as dirt", he is obviously oldER (since he is my dad). He doesnt care about techy stuff is all. Anyway...

I was told that only the 3G is 99.99 and NOT the 3GS.

I hope your dad doesn't get stuck with $30 extra on his bill every month.

I asked this very question to my buddy who is a lowly rep at ATT. If the phone is to show up on his account (I.E. he puts in his SIM card), then he will get the 30.00 charge. Since the upgrade is going to me and I will be using it on another carrier (eventually), he doesnt get hit with the charge.

I do this all the time with my small business account. I upgrade one line but then get the rep to actually add the phone to another line. No big deal. Actually, I am surprised ATT allows this.

so before you use it with another carried , you still planning on using it through your current AT&T account? :)

I dont have ATT. I have T-Mobile. I was thinking of MAYBE trying to snag a used 3GS down the line but I have a brand new-ish 3G that is ready for 3.0. Then I thought about asking my Dad if I could use his upgrade and voila!

So how are you going to use your brand new 3GS, if you have it contracted through AT&T(through your dad),,, I doubt it if you can just pop in your T-mobile and use it on it....

I wont be able to. Not at first. I will continue to use my BB until the Dev Team gets an unlock and jailbreak. I also might go the Turbo SIM route which worked flawlessly for me on my current 3G.

I dont plan on using the 3GS right away. But at least I will have it when I can use it. :D
