Sim swapping between iPhones

i took my sim out of my broken iPhone which is linked to my own iCloud account. i put it into a used device that was given to me. when i did this all of my messages and what not came through to the phone i could hear the incoming message sound over and over again... would whoever had access to the iCloud account that the device was linked to be able to see all of my stuff???

That stuff would not have been on your SIM card. It's linked to your AppleID/iCloud account.
