I am currently running 2.2 and have no need to unlock my phone. I was wondering if there was any reason/benefit to update to 2.2.1 before performing the jailbreak (other than having the most current OS). Another few more questions if you don't mind:
1) Is is necessary to install both Cydia and Installer when all I intend to use is Cydia?
2) If and when 2.3 comes out, will it be advisable to perform a fresh install or will a restore from backup be okay?
