Should I keep iOS 10 or upgrade to iOS 11?

The question is simple, I am always reading that iOS11 is bad, worse performance and battery life than iOS10, I am using iOS10 in my iPhone 7 right now and I have been avoiding the update because all the bad things I saw on internet, what should I do? my battery life and speed are good actually on iOS10, is iOS11.2 a good update or should I keep waiting for a newer update?

Re: Keep iOS10 or update to iOS11?

My wife has the 6 plus and iOS 10 is still on it. We haven’t upgraded it to iOS 11 because it might slow it down.

Besides she uses a lot of apps that aren’t upgraded for iOS 11.

Re: Keep iOS10 or update to iOS11?

Hello and welcome to iMore! I am on iOS 11 and love it. I've had no issues at all. Plus the most recent update, that came out earlier this week included important security updates. I now have an iPhone 8 Plus, which I got in early December. Prior to that I had an iPhone 6s, which had iOS 11 on it. I had no issues on the 6s either.

Updating your iDevice is always a good thing as all updates bring more security

Re: Keep iOS10 or update to iOS11?

Thanks a lot Annie, that is the kind of answer that I was looking for, one of my friends actually have a 6S with iOS11 and seems fine but he doesnt know to tell me if everithing works as always or not because he didnt pay attention to the updates, he just use the phone: my iP7 works simple fine and I dont want slow downs or a bad battery life, there are a lot of people with iPhones 7 and 8 complaining about iOS11 and for that reason I was avoiding the update.
Being honest, I dont care about security , I was more worry about performance and battery life.

Just keep your 7 on 10. From what I have noticed, iOS 11 still needs work when it comes to "older" phones.

My 7 Plus has been running iOS 11 for awhile now, and it’s quite stable these days

It’s up to you, but know this - by not upgrading a device that’s capable of receiving the update, you risk Not being protected from security exploits. With that in mind, I recommend you upgrade to the latest iOS version. You may even find that your device runs as well or better than it did on iOS 10.

With all the fuss about battery throttling and Apple still waiting to provide for a credible answer, I would keep iOS 10 a little more.
Maybe with iOS 11.3 the issue will be finally solved.

From what I’ve noticed, iOS 11 still needs work when it comes to “all” phones.

(rant time)

So many bugs with AirPods and everything music. The Music app crashes if you put too many songs in the Up Next section, and I mean like around ten songs from different albums. If I switch from one AirPod to the other, it doesn’t always connect. If I have my right AirPod in, sometimes the phone will route the audio output back to the phone and will start playing out of the phone. The Now Playing screen will do crazy things, including but not limited to, NOT WORKING. All sorts of music related bugs, which is what I use my devices for the most. And not just Apple Music, but with downloaded music, the Podcast app, and even SoundCloud, so I suspect there’s something wrong in the way the phone handles audio in iOS 11 since it seems to be all audio sources being funky that I just don’t remember in iOS 10. I am using AirPods, Apple Watch Series 2 Nike +, and iPhone X. All these issues even with iPhone X, so getting a new phone and starting over, not restoring from a backup, did nothing for me. iOS 11 needs so much work for all phones. And where even is AirPlay 2???

(Okay, rant over. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming)

If I heard or read an update had a bug or bugs that were going to notably degrade my experience I might hold off, even if there were security updates I’d be missing.

I'm hanging back on iOS 10.1.1. I use magic wallpapers that don't work past iOS 10.1.1. Also have several 32 bit apps I like and use. If I could find suitable replacements, I'd go ahead and update.
